Liam Harrison has announced that he has signed a contract with ONE Championship, via an X post, to complete his Muay Thai return after a 19-month layoff.
The Comeback of Liam Harrison
‘The Hitman’ has relentlessly shared clips of him training over the past few months, and earlier today he shared a statement to X regarding his activity.
Since losing to Nong-O Gaiyanghadao by leg kicks, it has been in Harrison’s best interests to get back into action.
Unfortunately, his scheduled bout for January 2023 against Pongsiri PK Saenchai was cancelled due to the Thai native sustaining an injury.
Again, just two months ago, the eight-time world champion had to cancel his bout with John Lineker, pencilled in for ONE Fight Night 18, after he could not recover from a longstanding knee problem in time for the Brazilian.
Who Will Harrison Face?
The 38-year-old specifically said ‘two big fights’ in his X post, so who will be standing across from the Muay Thai veteran next?
It is almost a deadset that Seksan Or Kwanmuang will be named as one of the two opponents, due to Harrison’s X post in December 2023 saying that Seksan is ‘the only fight he wants to come back to’.
An affirmative response from Seksan also gave the matchup the green light.
He replied: “I’m ready to meet you at 140 pounds if that’s okay with you.”
Other names are up in the air, but Harrison has shut down an all-British showdown with Jonathan Haggerty. Although fans are desperate to see it happen, ‘The Hitman’ gave his take on them fighting when replying to a user on X.
Harrison said: “I don’t wanna give him the satisfaction of potentially having a win over me when I’m past my sell by date… I’d obliterate him in my prime but I’m not that guy anymore unfortunately.”
Without any hiccups and if everything runs smoothly, Harrison might be hanging up the gloves by the end of 2024. The question remains, will he end his decorated career on one final high?
