Liz Carmouche Earned a Decision Victory Over Juliana Velasquez at PFL 1
Right from the start Liz Carmouche was able to apply pressure against Velasquez straight away, and was able to use knees and foot stomps against her opponent to her advantage.
However, she never followed up any of these strikes with a takedown to get the fight to the ground. Velasquez instead reversed the position. After a battle on who would have the position the pair broke off back to the centre. At the end of the round Carmouche tried and failed for a takedown. While she may have failed to get the takedown Velasquez did finish the round with damage under one eye.
Carmouche kept applying the pressure into the 2nd round and kept pursuing a takedown. However, unlike before she was able to be successful in this attempt moving into half guard. She eventually stood back up after getting plenty of work done. Carmouche went straight at working the legs of Velasquez who was still on the ground. At the end of the 2nd round. Liz Carmouche was able to got a kimura and Armbar locked in but couldn’t finish it. However, settled for Hammer fists to finish the round.
The third round would kick off with some back-and-forth action in the clinch. Velasquez was able to land some good lefts which made Carmouche go for a takedown. This was successful and the fight moved to the ground which is where Velasquez didn’t want to be since she was looking for a finish. Velasquez was unable to escape and Liz Carmouche was able to get the victory in the end by the judge’s scorecards.
Carmouche Still Has Work to Be Done
While Liz Carmouche can be happy she got the result this evening there is still work to be done. That is because she was only able to get a decision victory. Taila Santos, Dakota Ditcheva, and Jenna Bishop all got first-round stoppages. First-round finishes are worth 6 points in the PFL Season whereas a decision victory is worth 3 points. While it is still points on the board she will still have to watch out in the next fight so she doesn’t lose out on her place in the playoffs.
