With UFC 309 now in the books, we are all looking forward to the final big event of the year. UFC 310 is being hosted in the organization’s spiritual home of Las Vegas and the T-Mobile Arena is set to stage a series of highly-anticipated fights.
Unfortunately, the welterweight championship match-up between Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov will now not go ahead. But there is still a championship bout to get excited about – as well as a whole host of other high-octane meetings. The fans are eagerly looking forward to a special night in Nevada before the holidays kick in and if you are wondering how to bet on UFC we have all the information on the event’s schedule.
Headline Event
With the Muhammad vs. Rakhmonov bout now shelved for a later date, the big fight will be for the flyweight belt between reigning champion Alexandre Pantoja and challenger Kai Asakura. This is the third defense of the title for the Brazilian Pantoja, after he initially claimed the belt by beating Brandon Moreno – for the second time – in July of last year.
Pantoja has beaten Brandon Royval and Steve Erceg since then but will face a completely different proposition in the form of Asakura. The Japanese fighter is a former two-time Rizin bantamweight champion and is making his first appearance under the UFC banner. It is sure to be an enthralling meeting at the top of the card.
Heavyweight Action
One of the other big fights of the night will be the heavyweight contest between Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov. These two were supposed to meet in October but the bout was postponed because of a knee injury suffered by Volkov. They will now come together in Las Vegas in a rematch of their 2021 Fight Night contest, where Gane won by unanimous decision.
The French fighter has enjoyed a mixed time since then. He did beat Derrick Lewis to claim the interim heavyweight championship in a very impressive manner. But two subsequent attempts at taking the heavyweight belt – against Francis Ngannou and then Jon Jones – have ended in failure. He will be hoping that victory here, after the defeat of Serghei Spivac last September, will boost his position in the rankings.
But Volkov is just behind Gane in third place and will see this fight as an opportunity to put himself in the frame for a title bout with current champion Jon Jones. The Russian fighter has won his last four bouts, since falling to current number one contender Tom Aspinall and will believe that this will be his moment to shine.
Big Night in Vegas
With only one more UFC event scheduled after this until the turn of the year, fans can be guaranteed an exhilarating night in the octagon. There are some incredibly talented fighters on show – some well-known and some new to the scene – as well as some old scores to be settled.
UFC has shown that it is the most prestigious mixed martial arts organization out there now, with top fighters from other brands eager to prove their credentials under the UFC banner. This will be the last chance of the year for any change of identity when it comes to UFC champions, so we can all be rest assured that UFC 310 will help MMA see 2024 out with a bang.
