Mackenzie Dern is seen by many as one of the best jiu-jitsu fighters within the UFC. The Brazilian is a former jiu-jitsu world champion and currently has four submission victories in the UFC. Now, she’s set her goals to become the best.
Mackenzie Dern on Beating Do Bronx’s Record
29-year-old Dern is preparing for her second UFC main event this Saturday when she faces Yan Xiaonan. A win for either competitor could put them comfortably into the title picture.
Fifth-ranked Dern is a former world number one ranked IBJJF competitor as well as an ADCC and no-gi BJJ (black belt) World Champion. Her submissions are feared by many within the UFC strawweight division, and for a good reason.
Ahead of her main event this weekend, she explained her goals for the next five years, with records on her mind and enough gold to cover both shoulders.
“In another five years, I see myself almost there with the record of Charles Do Bronx of most submissions in the UFC. With the belt, hopefully with belts. Maybe the 125 and 115. A couple of brand deals and maybe my own online class. Or perhaps teaching. Just happy and successful.”
UFC Submission Record
Oliveira currently has 16 submissions with the promotion. His most recent coming against Justin Gaethje in May at UFC 274. Incredibly, his first came in his UFC debut in August 2010 against Darren Elkins.
The current top five for the record include some huge names. Demian Maia sits in second with 11. Royce Gracie and Jim Miller share third place with 10. And after his recent victory over Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz is fifth with 9.
