Despite being finished for the first time in her career, Mackenzie Dern still holds her head high.
Last night in Madison Square Garden, Dern had hoped to take a gigantic leap in the strawweight title picture by defeating a former champion in Jessica Andrade. However, the fight didn’t unfold how she’d wished. Leading into the fight, it was clear Andrade had a significant advantage in the power department, and it showed.
As always, Dern showcased her toughness and durability, but she continued to eat one shot too many before being dropped and forcing the referee to call a stop to the action in the second round.
Respectfully, Dern looked like a completely different fighter than her fight with Angela Hill back in May. After the fight, Dern apologised to her followers via her Instagram.
Mackenzie Dern Talks UFC 295 Loss to Jessica Andrade
“Hey guys, so I’m sorry about the loss and I’m sorry about the fight,” Dern said. “I tried my best, but just it’s tough. I got hit and it is what it is.”
Although the defeat to Andrade has setback the Brazilian from her dream of becoming a UFC world champion, she’s still not too disheartened.
“So, I appreciate it,” Dern said. “I appreciate all the support. I’m sorry if I upset anyone, I know a lot of you guys believed in me, but I will be back stronger and learn from this, and let’s go. We’re still gonna go after the belt.”
The result meant Dern has now gone 2-2 in her last four bouts and hasn’t been able to pick up any real momentum.
