Alex Pereira Faces Toughest Test Against Magomed Ankalaev
Following the conclusion of UFC 311, the UFC announced the details for UFC 313. The card which is set to take in Las Vegas features interesting matchups across the event. However, fans are focused on the main event, where light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira is set to face off against Russian Magomed Ankalaev. The champion has had a busy twelve months defending his belt three times in 2024 and stepped in to headline UFC 300 after Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic was cancelled.
Furthermore, since his debut, Alex Pereira has taken the UFC by storm. Blessed with incredible kickboxing ability the Brazilian rapidly rose through the rankings before claiming the middleweight championship. However, the weight cut meant that Pereira was forced to move up into the light heavyweight division where he has dominated. Periera has also hinted at potentially moving back down to middleweight to face champion Dricus Du Plessis.
On the other hand, Magomed Ankalaev is on a thirteen-fight win streak in the UFC. The Russian has been forced to watch on as Pereira dismantled both Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree. Ankalaev has incredible grappling skills and boxing skills which can pose the champion problems. Following on, the Russian has been goading the champion on social media.
Dan Hooker and Justin Geathje Set to Face off in Five Round Slugfest
Whilst Alex Pereira is arguably the biggest star on the UFC 313 card, fans are eager for the co-main event. American Justin Geathje is set to return to the Octagon following his last-minute knockout loss to Max Holloway. The American spoke on his YouTube channel and said; “Coming off a knockout, I’m really excited to get back to training. When you take a loss like that, as competitive as we are, then it lights a fire under your a** and we’re getting back to work.”
His opponent on the other hand is Dan Hooker. The Kiwi was scheduled to face Connor McGregor but that fight never materialised. Hooker has become a fan favourite with his eye catching performances and entertaining fights. Hooker is on a three fight winning streak so it will be a tough test for Justin Geathje at UFC 313.
