This past weekend, Marc Diakiese (15-5) picked up a huge win at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Daukaus. A week after the spectacular show in London, Diakiese kept the momentum going for UK MMA. In a dominant, grappling-heavy bout, the Congolese-born English fighter was triumphant against Viacheslav Borschev. Diakiese moved to 6-5 in the UFC, and he just may be headed for a run. While known as a striking specialist, “Bonecrusher” surprised many by dominating on the ground against the Team Alpha Male fighter known as “Slava Claus.”
Marc Diakiese Back in the Win Column
Entering as the underdog for the main card opener, Diakiese silenced doubters and showed his array of skills. With his UFC career defined by highs and lows, the 29-year old looks to keep the momentum going. He called out Drew Dober, noting that Dober “likes to bang.” Diakiese also hopes that his next fight will take place in the UK. Dana White has stated that the UFC will be returning to the United Kingdom in 2022, which Diakiese all but confirmed in a post-fight interview.
The Win Was Vital to His UFC Career
“Bonecrusher” discussed the importance of the win, with this bout being the last on his contract and coming off of two losses. While he acknowledged that the victory may not have been the most pleasing style, a win was vital at this juncture. The performance was impressive nonetheless, and his future performances will surely benefit from the grappling improvements exhibited in Columbus.
The lightweight looks to make a splash in the division, showcasing his all-around skill set and weaponizing a grueling pace. After turning away, a big prospect like Borschev, a win over Dober, could be the one to catapult Diakiese into the rankings.
While being a UFC veteran before age 30 is not incredibly common, Diakiese finds himself in this position. Charles Oliveira shared this position, and Diakiese can use that path to carve out his fighting future.
