Marc Diakiese (14-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) hasn’t even broken 30 yet but is considered by many to be a veteran in the world of MMA. This weekend, he returns to action against Viacheslav Borshchev and looks to assert himself in the lightweight division.
Marc Diakiese’s Career So Far
Marc Diakiese has had a rollercoaster of a career so far. Starting out on the UK regional scene before succeeding in BAMMA and then signing to the UFC, ”Bonecrusher” has been everywhere.
Marc is currently 5-5 in the UFC, but the 50/50 record isn’t a reflection of the opposition he has faced. Rafael Fiziev and Dan Hooker stand out as two very tough contenders to share the cage with.
Diakiese’s bout comes a week removed from UFC London. While the entertaining lightweight missed out on the opportunity to compete on home soil. He knows his chances will come with the right results.
There are a few doubters heading into his fight this weekend. Diakiese is coming off a two-fight skid but is very confident that it ends with this fight.
Marc Diakiese vs Viacheslav Borshchev
Viacheslav Borshchev (6-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is a dangerous striker, which Diakiese has even admitted. The lightweight told GiveMeSport.com the following: “I know he’s a good kickboxer, comes to fight, and that’s all I know about him. I’m just trying to go out there and put on my own show – I’m not trying to think about what he’s going to do or whatever.”
Diakiese hasn’t fought in front of a crowd for three years now. Although he is never in a boring fight, his focus is on winning. “It’s about winning in the UFC. That’s what I’ve learnt. You can have all the hype, but if you’re not winning, it’s not good. But my fights are never boring. I’m not really interested in a finish or what people are thinking about me. I just need to win.”
Marc is a veteran of 9 amateur fights as well as 19 professional bouts, still believing his best is yet to come. He is still only 29 and relatively young in the game even with his experience, so time is definitely on his side.
This weekend, we will see if Marc Diakiese can take the right steps to cement himself among the elite lightweights in the world.
