Marcin Tybura will be having a rematch against Sergei Spivac this weekend. There first bout was back in 2020 and resulted in a unanimous decision victory for Tybura. Since then a lot has changed for both fighters. Since beating Spivac Tybura has picked up wins over Greg Hardy, Alexandr Romanov, and Tai Tuivasa. Tybura has also picked up losses to the top of the division such as Alexander Volkov and Tom Aspinall.
Since losing to Tybura Sergei Spivac has also experienced a lot. He has secured wins over Aleksei Oleinik, Greg Hardy, and Derrick Lewis. He to has also lost to Tom Aspinall and most recently lost to Ciryl Gane again the elite of the division.
Tybura Speaks on Spivac’s Improvement
Tybura gave an interview on the UFC’s media day outlining his thoughts. He said, “He for sure (improved) I saw a couple of his fights, and he had a very good performance using his skills, throwing his takedowns, making submissions. I can see he gained some weight, muscles mostly, so he’s more power, more strong. For sure, he’s a different fighter.”. This is relatively accurate Spivac has improved a bit since their last bout. It’s a good sign from Tybura that he isn’t overlooking this opponent which can be disastrous particularly at heavyweight,
Tybura also spoke about te feeling he gets when offered fights. Marcin said, “It’s always excitement when the UFC calls, offers you a fight,” Tybura said. “I’ve been here long and have lots of fights, but is still the same. I know how UFC was a big dream for me, so when I get the call, I’m always excited. Sure, I rather fight somebody that gets me closer to the top, but I feel like you can gain something in every fight.” The enthusiasim seems to still be there no doubt helped by his recent win submitting Tai Tuivasa.
Marcin Tybura also added, “I’ve been in fights where I’ve been really close to getting there, and I didn’t manage to do it, so right now I’m just trying to focus on the fight,” Tybura said. “That’s what I’m doing. It’s like my fight with Tom Aspinall, which was two fights ago. Right now, it’s like looking for some answers that I don’t know yet and look to see to be a top five fighter.”. Like most fighters on media day he says he’s focused on the current fight at hand and how looking ahead can be dangerous. But, he still has ambition and looks to enter the top 5 at heavyweight.
We will see if this ambition gets fulfilled this weekend or whether he’ll be back at square one. Let us know how you think the rematch will go.
