Marlon Vera has broken his silence after coming up short on Saturday against bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley, via his Instagram.
Marlon Vera Loses His First Title Fight
Now one a piece with Sean O’Malley, ‘Chito’ heads back to the drawing board after a valiant effort against the champion at UFC 299.
Following a couple of deserved days of rest, Vera took to his Instagram to say: “I dream about last night my whole life and fell short at the end of the day. I will be back. Thanks to my family and team for being by my side. The love of Ecuador was felt more than ever, thank you for supporting me that way I will come back stronger, the belt will be mine one day.”
‘Chito’ looked like a tough nut for ‘Suga’ to crack as the Ecuadorian withstood everything that was thrown at him, including two flush knees to the head.
Ultimately, the challenger was battered and bruised after the five-round affair and O’Malley looked the clear victor, giving ‘Chito’ his ninth career loss.
Despite being significantly undone in the striking department, Vera still did not look out of place and is likely to maintain his position as a top contender in the bantamweight division.
What Next for ‘Chito’?
‘Chito’ is still in a good spot, with all things being considered, as he’s only 31 years old and still ranked at number five in the division.
Building his way back up and facing tougher fights will be a key factor in the next year of his career. Other contenders, like Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling, will also have the same mindset of getting back into the title conversation, so the competition will not be easy.
Although confidence may be shot after his loss to Sean O’Malley, not all is bad for Vera.
‘Chito’ has never lost two fights in a row more than once in his UFC career and has already faced six of the currently ranked bantamweights.
Therefore, he knows how to bounce back. Sometimes, against the best.
