The past week has certainly been a challenging one for UFC bantamweight Marlon Vera.
Fresh from defeat to long time rival Sean O’Malley at UFC 299, ‘Chito’ has revealed that he has fallen victim to a burglary, carried out whilst the contender was away vying for UFC gold. Vera took to Instagram upon return to his California home, showing the damage caused by the perpetrators:
Marlon Vera Reacts
Shortly after sharing the story on Instagram, Marlon Vera was provided concerned fans with context surrounding the situation:
“The context is last night there was a robbery,” Vera wrote on Instagram. They broke into our house. Though they are material things, they are things that have been bought with a lot of effort and hard work. But hey, these types of things happen and the truth is tonight will be a good one. Tonight the gold belt (as Eli calls it) will be ours. God with us and to the person who did it. I really hope he needed the money for something important. Much love.”
Despite the chilling warning issued in the initial story post, it seems Vera has collected himself and found calm among the chaos. This does not come as a surprise, given his humble reaction following defeat to O’Malley this past weekend. Despite domination via the creative, calculated striking of ‘Suga Sean’ for the majority of the five round showdown, ‘Chito’ will surely look to bounce back swiftly with a slew of options at his behest.
What Next For Vera?
The UFC’s bantamweight division certainly doesn’t lack in star power. Marlon Vera is sure to be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing his next opponent.
Former 135lb champion Aljamain Sterling certainly stirred the pot with his thoughts on the UFC 299 showdown. ‘Funkmaster’ was quick to question what Vera had done to deserve his shot at the title, claiming there were better deserving contenders within the top 5. Vera and Sterling are yet to face each other in the octagon; is now the perfect time?
Petr Yan’s emphatic return to the win column at UFC 299 is sure to add fuel to the bantamweight division’s already red-hot fire. ‘No Mercy’ made a sharp callout of both championship contenders backstage following his convincing victory over Song Yadong.
Yan will surely need a big win before a shot at his former crown. Is his desired fight with Vera the perfect precursor?
