Marlon Vera has reacted to the news that Henry Cejudo will not be fit to fight him at UFC 292. Yesterday, Cejudo announced that he had sustained a shoulder injury and will not be able to compete against Vera in Boston.
Marlon Vera vs Henry Cejudo Off
Cejudo made the announcement on his YouTube channel on Thursday. He said: Unfortunately due to my right shoulder, I won’t be able to fight. I’ve already torn my left shoulder where I was out for about a year. I don’t want to tear it further than what it already is.”
This was good matchmaking by the UFC and it had the potential to be an explosive battle. Unfortunately for the fighters and fans, we will not get to see the fight any time soon.
Vera Responds
After finding out the news that Cejudo would not be able to fight, ‘Chito’ took to Twitter to respond: “Well… F***,” he said in a short video. Vera was clearly disappointed not to be fighting ‘Triple C’, but didn’t waste any time letting the world know who he would like to fight next.
“Yan step up,” Vera wrote on Twitter.
As of yet, Vera doesn’t have a new opponent for UFC 292, but a fight with Petr Yan would make sense. Yan and Vera are ranked five and six respectively in the bantamweight division and both fighters are coming off losses – Vera to Cory Sandhagen and Yan to Merab Dvalishvili.
Vera and Yan will both be looking to bounce back as soon as possible after their losses, especially ‘No Mercy’ who is now on a three fight losing streak. On the other hand, the Ecuadorian won four fights in a row before his defeat to Sandhagen. He will be hoping to secure a title shot with another win.
Vera has expressed interest in fighting Yan before. Will we finally get to see these two bantamweight warriors go toe-to-toe in the octagon?
