The return of Cage Warriors’ ‘Double Dragon’ has today been confirmed by CW officials, with Mason Jones set to do battle with would-be dragon-slayer Alexandre Ribeiro at CW 158: Rome.
The bout will feature on the evening’s main card, which takes place at the Fiera Roma on Saturday, July 29th.
Mason Jones Comes Home to Cage Warriors
Jones, who decided to test free-agency following a four-fight stint in the UFC, returns to the promotion where he became only the second man to hold titles in two different weight divisions simultaneously.
The 28-year-old Welshman was unbeaten in seven contests under the CW banner before being tabbed to compete in a late notice lightweight title bout on the eve of the pandemic closing down combat sports in the UK.
Jones would put on a masterful performance to stop future champion Joe McColgan late in the first round, before returning during the empty arena ‘Trilogy Era’ to face #1 ranked 170lb’er Adam Proctor for the vacant welterweight gold.
In a stunning display of grit, ‘The Dragon’ battled through Proctor’s heavy artillery to earn another first round stoppage, after which he was promptly signed to the UFC.
Facing Jones in his return fight is battle-tested Brazilian campaigner Alexandre ‘Lek Lek’ Ribeiro.
A seasoned veteran, Ribeiro has finished 14 of his 20 victories within the distance, and brings over a decades’ worth of in-cage experience into the bout.
The Brazilian made an impressive 14-3 start to his pro career, and has been victorious in three of his last five.
A dangerous striker, ‘Lek Lek’s last five wins have come by way of KO, prior to which he earned a points victory over CW veteran Edward Walls in Finland.
Other Bouts
Headlining CW 158 is a flyweight title bout, with Shaj ‘Superman’ Haque making the first defence of his title against former bantamweight champion Michele Martignoni.
Also on the bill, Italy’s Dario Bellandi faces Lithuania’s Naglis Kanišauskas, fan favourites James Power and Michael Pagani will meet in a lightweight clash and finishing machine Sam Kelly takes on Gianluca Scottoli.
