Mason Yarrow is prepared and ready for anything his opponent Jackson O’Neill brings him at Badmofo MMA 6 this Saturday in the Barnsley Metrodome on July 15th.
Ahead of the battle, we had the chance of catching up with Mason Yarrow. Hear his full thoughts below.
Interview With Mason Yarrow
You’re all set to make the second walk of 2023. How are you feeling after your quick debut victory at the start of the year? It must have been nice coming out of that fight with no niggles or injuries.
I was very happy with my performance at the start of the year, and it was always a goal to make the crossover from taekwondo to mma.
On the fight with Josh Dean at AFC, truthfully, was that the type of fight you envisioned prior to walking in there, and did that shot to the body that ended the fight come as a surprise? Assuming you had millions of scenarios playing in your head, was that one of them?
No, it wasn’t a scenario I thought of, but anything comes out when you are in the moment. I also wouldn’t say it was a surprise; I know what I’m capable of.
First-round finishes are always good for the resume. However, is there a part of you that wants to bank the rounds and go the distance to get more experience and time in the cage, or are you in the mindset of getting in, getting out, and getting the job done?
I definitely, of course, want the rounds. I do a lot of training to make sure when I am in those situations. I give myself the best chance of coming out with the victory. However, if the finish is there, I will always take it.
Mason Yarrow on MMA Journey
For the readers who may not be aware of you, can you give them a brief background on yourself, your journey into the sport, and why it’s a path you decided to pursue?
I started taekwondo at 9, having my fight six months later. At 12, I progressed into the Great Britain team staying there till I was 18, where I then moved into the full-time academy and lived and trained in Manchester. I competed at worlds and Europeans from age 12 to 20, competing for GB taekwondo and at 18, represented TeamGB in the 2018 Youth Olympics.
You’ll face Jackson O’Neill, fighting out of Stockport MMA. What do you know about him, the gym, and your thoughts on the overall matchup?
I don’t know a great deal as it’s his debut, but that means nothing end of the day, we’re both going in there to take each other out, and in fighting, anything can happen.
What do you anticipate Jackson brings to the table on fight night?
Again with it being his debut, I’m not 100% sure about his skill set, but I believe if I just focus on myself and do what I do best, I’ll be coming out of the cage with a victory.
Fight Prediction
Finally, can we get an official fight prediction from you and how you envision it unfolding?
An exciting fight, high pace, full of action. Whether it is at least 1 round or all 3, I’m ready for anything.
