Boxing is well and truly back in the UK and Matchroom looks to kick off 2022 with a bang. Daniel Jacobs vs John Ryder headlines at Alexandra Palace in London this Saturday. This is the first boxing event held at Ally Pally in nearly 10 years. It is a must-win fight for both men. At Thursday’s press conference, Eddie Hearn stated:
“I think John Ryder summed it up so well where he said the loser is done! These guys are in persuit of world championships. This is an official eliminator, an absolute must win for both guys on Saturday night.”
American Daniel Jacobs has an impressive record of 37-3 with 30 knockouts. His last two defeats have come against none other than Canelo Alverez and Gennadiy Golovkin. Having not fought since 2020, Jacobs needs a win to get back in the frame in the super middleweight division.
Fighting in his home city of London, John Ryder is ranked as the 2nd best super middleweight in the UK. Having a record of 30-5 with 17 knockouts, this is arguably Ryder’s toughest fight to date. Ryder won his last bout in Austria by a 5th round stoppage over Jozef Jurko. As stated this is a must-win fight for both, the winner could potentially be catapulted into WBA world title contention.
Matchroom Back At Ally Pally – Undercard
The Romford Bull Johnny Fisher is back in his 5th professional bout. He faces Spain’s Gabriel Enguema in a heavyweight showdown. After his impressive performances so far in his pro career, this is the right step up for Johnny. The experience of Enguema will give Johnny more of a test than his previous 4 bouts. To the amazement of Eddie Hearn, Fisher has personally sold around three thousand tickets for this event. With the event having an allocation of around seven thousand, the Romford bull army are here to take over!
A potential show-stealer could be Britain’s Felix Cash vs Russia’s Magomed Madiev. Cash is looking to break into the middleweight title contention this year. He won the British title last April with a third-round stoppage win over Denzel Bentley. With nearly a year out of the ring, Cash needs an emphatic win this Saturday night. The middleweight division is currently wide open for contenders to stake their claim for a title shot. Felix Cash (14-0, 10 knockouts) has a big task ahead of him against Magomed Madiev (15-0-2, 4 knockouts). Two undefeated middleweights looking to climb the rankings will go to war on Saturday the 12th.
Other UK fighters on the card feature Ellie Scotney vs Jorgelina Guanini for WBA intercontinental super-bantamweight title. Also, undefeated prospect Hopey Price takes on Ricardo Roman in a 6 round super-bantamweight contest.
Do not miss the live-action this Saturday from the Ally Pally and Matchroom’s first show of 2022. The undercard will be live on DAZN Before The Bell from 5:15 pm. The main card will be live on DAZN at 7:00 pm.
