Matthew Bonner is set to take on UFC veteran Darren Stewart this Saturday at Cage Warriors 156 and the Next Generation MMA representative is determined to give the fans their money’s worth.
Cage Warriors 156 will take place at the Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff, Wales. Bonner and Stewart will headline the event, with names like Reece McEwan, Rory Evans, Jack Eglin, Andy Clamp and Scott Pedersen all looking to steal the show on the undercard.
Bonner enters Saturday nights’ clash riding high on momentum after picking up back-to-back stoppage wins over Alan Carlos and Guiherme Cadena. Given Stewart’s history and body of work prior to re-signing with Cage Warriors, Bonner considers the fight one of the toughest of his career, and is aware the 32-year-olds high level experience will make him dangerous:
“I would certainly consider him up there as one of my toughest fights to date. I think the confidence and experience Stewart brings with him makes him a dangerous fight.” Bonner told Lewis Simpson at Combat Sports UK.
Since losing to Oban Elliot at Cage Warriors 142, it appears normal service has been resumed for the 32-year-old Englishman who’s bagged two stoppage wins since. Bonner focussed hard on working on holes that were exposed, and it’s shown as of late.
“I think moving back up to middleweight again has been the big difference. I’ve also worked on the weaknesses exposed in the last loss and feel my grappling has evolved.”
Matthew Bonner Promises Violence
Bonner is one-hundred-percent confident he has the ability and the tools to finish Stewart wherever the fight ends up. Stewart’s toughness and durability can’t be questioned, but he has shown in the past that he can be stopped. The intention’s are clear for Bonner ahead of battle, kill-or-be-killed.
“I’m confident in my skills and the fact that I’ve prepared diligently for this fight. I have a do-or-die attitude going into this. Get the finish, or go down trying.”
Becoming a father often lights a new fire in fighters. The hunger and desire of a man trying to fight to set up his own blood with a comfortable future is super-power in itself, and it’s something Bonner definitely has on his mind:
“Like any father I want to be able to provide for my family. Getting bigger fights and bigger purses will only come after a big win against Stewart.”
Bonner vs. Stewart screams violence. Two crafty individuals who love to give fans their money’s worth, and Bonner tells us not to expect anything different from him when the cage door closes in Cardiff.
“As always, I want the fans to get their money’s worth. This will be a fast-paced, electric fight. Someone’s getting finished.”
