A tough end to the Matthew Byfield vs Hugo Gullion fight as an accidental groin strike forces a no contest. It was a disappointing end to an interesting fight at Cage Warriors 135.
In the first round, Byfield secured the top position and controlled much of the round from there, striking and making life uncomfortable for his opponent. It seemed that the night would go well for Matty, and the viewing audience agreed. This wasn’t the case.
In the second it looked to be much of the same until the fighters separated. After a short back and forth, Byfield had his back to the cage when Hugo Gullion landed a knee from the clinch that caught Matthew Byfield in the groin. Mark Goddard stepped in to allow Byfield to recover, but almost instantly the fighter stated he couldn’t continue.
