Matthew Dixon predicts a “very fast-paced and exciting match-up at Goliath Fight Series 4.
Goliath Fight Series 4 is set to take place this Saturday in the Alloa Town Hall. The Scottish-based promotion will put on a grappling show in the afternoon followed by a mixed martial arts and K1 showing later in the evening. Promoter’s Steven Harris and Chris Duncan are doing some big things in the country with Goliath Fight Series, and show no intention of slowing down
We had the pleasure of catching up with Fu Dog’s own Matthew Dixon to see how he’s feeling ahead of his third walk to the cage.
Interview With Matthew Dixon
Matthew, last time we spoke, you had zero in-cage experience, and this time around you, you’ll be making the walk for the third time. How have things been since the last time we spoke?
Been good been working hard in the gym, building my skill set and trying to gather as much experience as possible through competing in k1 and grappling.
We have a lot to unpackage. First, let’s start with your debut against Fraser on the first Goliath show. Having had a long period of time to reflect, how was that experience, and was it everything you expected?
It was a rough experience, to be honest, losing on a local show. In that way, I expected to do better, but the show was good, and I learned a lot from the fight.
Seven months later, you picked up your first win in Peterhead. What did that mean to you to get that first win under your belt at Light Up Peterhead, and were you totally satisfied with your performance?
I do believe it was a pretty good performance, but obviously, there was still a lot of room for improvement, but it was a good feeling to get that win, especially via TKO.
Matthew Dixon on Losing MMA Debut
After losing your debut, you obviously made some changes in-between fights in order to ensure the next fight, the result would be different. What did you go back and work on that you then implemented in your most recent outing?
I worked a lot on my defensive wrestling against the cage, as that was probably the biggest error in my debut, and I also put more time into training my cardio. I used these both massively in my last fight, as I mainly used volume striking to win, and my opponent struggled to finish takedowns on very deep shots.
Saturday night, you square off with Lewis Edwards; what do you know about him, and how do you feel you match up against one another?
I know he has K1 experience from the looks of his fights. He looks like a good opponent, and I look forward to fighting him. I think it’s going to be a very fun fight.
Looking at Lewis’s debut fight. Where do you feel the keys to victory are for you?
I have only seen his debut one time, but from what I gathered, he was quite good and lost a close decision. I have seen a few things I think would work well, but it’s a fight, and anything can happen.
Goliath Faithful
Sell the fight to the Goliath faithful that will be packing out the Alloa Town Hall. Why should they buy a ticket and tune in to Matthew Dixon and Lewis Edwards?
People should tune in because I believe this fight will turn out to be a very fast-paced and exciting match-up, most likely ending in a finish.
Finally, I’ll leave you with the last word. Is there anyone you’d like to thank or any last words for Lewis before using face?
I’d like to thank everyone at Fu Dog Martial Arts for getting me prepared for this and Ian Feenan for coaching and cornering me, and lastly, my sponsor at the rumbling well pub and kitchen.
