Max Barnett enters his Badmofo 6 high on confidence with intentions of dismantling his opponent quickly.
Barnett is set to face Luke Kerrison on July 15th in Barnsley Metrodome. After a successful debut at BMF 3 last year, Barnett has faced three back-to-back losses and is hungry to right the wrong next Saturday.
His opponent, Kerrison is on a skid of his own after failing to pick up a victory in his last four. Barnett feel’s Kerrison is tailormade for his style and doesn’t see him making it to the final bell.
Ahead of the fight, we had the opportunity of catching up with Max Barnett. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Max Barnett
Max, you’re all set for your third outing of 2023. How important do you feel it is for you to keep gaining those valuable experiences regardless of results?
Regardless of the result, I’m out every chance I get without question. I love the process. I love to compete. Too many people like to talk these days instead of right.
The last time we spoke was prior to your bout with Ryan Shaw. You told me you expected to finish him. What do you feel went wrong in there in order for you to not get that result, and was there anything Ryan brought to the table that surprised you?
If I’m honest, I think I punched Ryan all over the cage. He won via a few takedowns with no damage and ended up in hospital after our fight. I’d love the Ryan Shaw rematch if he believes he won. The result didn’t bother me on that one when I performed how I did.
Max Barnett on Recent Results
The result does mean you’re suffering a three-fight skid. However, you’re competing against top-level competition. What’s the mindset around that? Are you in the mindset of the amateur scene being for experiencing losses and learning, or do you feel the pressure of needing/wanting to win?
There’s no pressure on me. However, I do have a winners mindset, so I’m desperate to get some W’s lined up on my record. I know I’m taking the fights people won’t, and I’m so early in the game I think it’s all a good experience. The losing record is ugly, but it’s all building towards the pro ranks.
July 15th, BMF 6, you make the walk and face-off against Luke Kerrison. Looking at his resume, how do you feel about the fight and your chances of getting back into the win column?
On paper, we have similar records. In terms of competition faced, it’s incompatible. I’ll run through him quickly.
Opponent
Luke’s had a tough time as of late and rides four consecutive losses. Have you watched any of them fight back, or are you comfortable with the fight just focusing on what you’re going to bring to the table on a fight?
I haven’t seen much, my coach has laid out the game plan, and I’ve seen a few clips. I think it’s a perfect style for me to land on early, so I’m excited to get in there.
Finally, how do you envision yourself getting it done, and what will Max Barnett do to celebrate in two weeks’ time?
I think you’ll see me get to him very early. I just think I’m too smart, quick and powerful for him.
I always like to celebrate properly. You’ll see me in Ibiza for a few days after the win. Then I’m back and into camp for another match in September. I aim to get out there five times this year.
