Lightweight veteran Dustin Poirier has backed Max Holloway to claim the BMF title over current holder Justin Gaethje. The ‘diamond’ Poirier has fought both fighters and believes that Holloway is big enough to deal with the ‘Highlight’.
UFC 300 crawls ever closer. Even though the main event is yet to be decided, one fight that is confirmed is Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway v Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje. This fight is an absolute stunner as we see one of the featherweight greats vs one of the lightweight’s most exiting fighters. An unbreakable chin v one of the pound for pound heaviest hitters. Both fighters have got incredible resumes but one fighter that is present in both is Dustin Poirier. Both Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway have fought the ‘Diamond’ twice with Holloway losing twice to Poirier and Gaethje only beating him recently at UFC 291. Poirier is very experienced with both fighters and he feels that Holloway has what it takes to claim the BMF belt.
Dustin Poirier Backs Max Holloway For UFC 300
Poirier spoke with MMA Fighting and believes that ‘Blessed’ is easily big enough to handle with Gaethje. ‘I respect both guys. Both guys are great fighters. I think that I would put money on Max, just him being the dog. I see a lot of guys online saying, ‘Max is going to be undersized.’ Max is a big guy.’
He continued, ‘Him and Justin probably walk around the same weight. Max isn’t a small guy. And the striking, the time of Max, the range, his durability- it’s a coin toss. But if I was betting, I would bet (on) Max.’ Dustin Poirier is also preparing for his match against Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299. It’s clear to see that even after his recent loss of the BMF belt, Poirier has no ill words to say to Gaejthe nor Holloway. However, I’m sure Poirier is itching to get his BMF title back from whoever claims it after UFC 300.

The New BMF Champion?
Both Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway are some of the greatest fighters the UFC has ever seen. But who would actually win a fight between the two? Max Holloway is coming off wins against the now retired Korean Zombie and Arnold Allen. It is common knowledge that Holloway is arguably the greatest boxer the UFC has ever seen with an unbreakable chin that has never been cracked by anyone. With wins over Jose Aldo, Charles Oliveira, Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez, Holloway has resume that most featherweights dream of.
Justin Gaethje is the current BMF champion after claiming it from former champ, Dustin Poirier. Gaejthe may not be as slick as Holloway on the feet, one thing Gaejthe does have is an incredibly powerful punch. Out of his eight wins in the UFC, ‘The Highlight’ has managed to win by TKO/KO six times. In his MMA career, 80% of his wins have been a TKO/KO. If there is anyone that could break Holloway’s chin, it is Gaethje. Along with an overall incredibly refined striking skill set with wins over Dustin Poirier, Rafael Fiziev, Michael Chandler, Donald Cerrone and Edson Barboza, Gaethje has an incredible resume to challange Holloway’s.
In my personal opinion, I think Gaethje will pull off the unthinkable and knockout Holloway, but that will be an absolute shock. However, it doesn’t matter who you think will win. This fight is destined to be an exceptional show of violence.
