UFC 298 goes down tomorrow at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Part of the fight week ritual for big events is the fan Q&A that takes place the day before the event. This allows fans to ask some fighters on upcoming cards whatever they want. UFC 298’s fan Q&A featured multiple stars on the upcoming historical event, UFC 300. Featuring the likes of Justin Gaethje, Aljamain Sterling, Jim Miller, and Max Holloway, the Q&A gave us a better look at the mindset of these fighters going into this massive event.
Max Holloway Picks Volkanovski to Win, Throws Shot at Topuria
A standout moment of the presser was when Max Holloway was asked about UFC 298’s main event, Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria. Holloway was asked who he felt would win the fight and how he matched up with the Georgian. Holloway expressed confidence in his former rival, picking him to win while pushing Topuria to the side.
“I’ll answer the second question first, there’s a reason they didn’t give me Ilia. They wanted him to make it to this fight. The first question is Volk man. Volk is hearing your guys chatter. Volk’s last fight, getting finished or whatever, he’s hearing the old man talk. The guy really got the dog in him you guys are gonna find out tomorrow. I think he finishes Ilia before 5.”
Holloway’s History With the Champion
If anyone knows about Alexander Volkanovski and what he’s capable of in the octagon, it’s Max Holloway. The former champion has spent fifteen rounds in the cage with the current champion, seeing him at his very best. Many fans argue that Holloway won their second fight, but any doubts about the champion were put to rest in their third fight. Their trilogy is one of the more popular “rivalries” in UFC history, as both men maintained much respect and put on 3 amazing fights for the fans.
The UFC 298 headliner is a tough fight to pick knowing the situation the championship was in just months ago. Returning to the cage too soon could be detrimental to Volkanovski’s career, or could change the mind of fans who doubted him coming in.
Will Max Holloway’s prediction hold true or will we hear and new come tomorrow night? Let us know in the comments below. Stay updated on the results of UFC 298 at Combat Sports UK!
