Max Holloway is a legend in the MMA Community and has so far accomplished a lot. Holloway has accomplished a lot by clinching the featherweight title however, he is still only 32 years old.
Holloway is one of the best featherweights that has fought in the UFC. Since 2013 he has only been defeated by one man. Holloway currently holds a record of 21-6 at Featherweight and 18-3 since 2013. The 3 defeats he has suffered since 2013 have all come against the recently dethroned champion Alexander Volkanovski. Max Holloway won 10 fights in a row to become the interim champion before getting to fight Jose Aldo. Max Holloway was able to defeat Aldo by ground and pound in the 3rd round to clinch the title. Holloway was able to defend the title 3 times before facing Volkanovski for the first time.
Holloway during his career has been able to get wins over some notable opposition. Anthony Pettis, Charles Oliveria, Frankie Edgar, and Jose Aldo (2 times) are some of the names Holloway has defeated. Holloway has not been able to get his hands on the title since 2019 when he lost to Volkanovski. However, he has put on some impressive performances like when he faced Calvin Kattar. Holloway landed 445 strikes against Kattar which is the most by any fighter in a single bout. He has also shown he doesn’t fear anyone as not only has he fought Volkanovski 3 times but also decided to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov on short notice. This weekend he will face Justin Gathje in a fight for Gathje’s BMF title.
Dana White Gave Max Holloway Praise
UFC CEO Dana White was speaking on First Take and was talking about this fight. Dana White was full of praise for Holloway and feels this fight with Gathje will be full of fireworks. Dana White said;
“Max Holloway, always a big fan favorite,” White said from his Las Vegas “War Room” office on First Take (h/t MMA Mania). “Probably the greatest featherweight of all time, going up against Gaethje, who is a human highlight reel.
“The idea of the BMF was built right here in this room. There’s always these fights that the fans love, whether it’s a [Jorge] Masvidal vs. [Nate] Diaz, you know, those types of fights — Gaethje and Holloway. We were sitting in here one day and thought about building this BMF title and who’s better fit for this thing than Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway? We thought about it in here. I told the guys, ‘Tell me if I’m crazy, but what do you think of this idea?’ They loved it, the fans love it, and here we go.”
Holloway Against Gathje a Must See
The fight between Max Holloway and Justin Gathje will be a must-watch this weekend and is sure to be exciting. This being the case it has every right to be on a UFC card like UFC 300. This is a match-up which we didn’t see coming due to Holloway having moved down to Featherweight and hasn’t fought in lightweight since 2019. This fight was for the Interim lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. This was a decision defeat and has always fought in Featherweight since this defeat. While this may be the first time since 2019 he has fought in lightweight this fight is expected to bring fireworks. Both fighters prefer to stay standing so expect this fight to be a spectacular striking battle.
