Max Holloway has had quite the career inside the UFC octagon. He has done it all in the sport and doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon. He takes on the Korean Zombie this weekend at UFC Singapore. This matchup excites fans as both fighters are known for putting on incredible fights. Even though they are both highly ranked in the featherweight division, their paths have never crossed. What makes the fight exciting is that they are both incredibly durable.
The Legendary Career Of Max Holloway
Holloway has got to be one of the most iconic fighters in UFC history, known for his incredible striking, especially his boxing skills. Holloway has entertained fans for the better part of a decade. He has won the featherweight championship and fought for the interim lightweight belt. The Blessed Express has a professional record of 24-7 with 12 finishes. He throws an immense volume of strikes with flowing combinations in his fights. He has beaten names like Yair Rodriguez, Josè Aldo, and Frankie Edgar. Even though his striking gets people to the door, his durability is his best attribute. No one has dropped Holloway so far throughout his long career. Furthermore, he only lost via stoppage once, and that was to Dustin Poirier in their first meeting. When speaking on the Flagrant podcast, Holloway stated only one fighter had genuinely rocked him.
“Andre Fili, I remember getting hit once; he cracked me with something. I don’t even know what he hit me with.”
The Korean Zombie
Like Holloway, his opponent on Saturday, Chan Sung Jung, is an MMA legend. In his most recent fight, he unsuccessfully challenged for Alexander Volkanovski’s title. However, he put it all on the line and displayed his durability. He is known as the Korean Zombie because Jung always walks forward no matter how much damage he has absorbed. The Korean fighter has a professional record of 17-7 with 13 finishes. He is a well-rounded fighter; you can see this by his record’s six knockouts and eight submission victories. Jung famously submitted one of his opponents with the twister, a rare submission for fighters to use. The 36-year-old will be a tough outing for Holloway as he will look to get a big win to be in-line for another title shot.
What Happens To The Winner
When looking at what a victory can lead to, it is hard to see the title shot for both fighters if they win. They have both lost to Volkanovski in quite a convincing fashion. The fight’s winner would likely have to take on another top contender, such as Rodriguez or Josh Emmett, to get another crack at the Australian champion. However, a win could go a long way in putting them back into title contention. In addition to this, as the two fighters are so hard to finish, which means a stoppage could grant them an immediate title shot.
The showdown of these two legendary featherweights is a long time in the making, and it will be a great night in Singapore.
