Having just beaten ex-UFC champion Holly Holm in what many expect to now be a title eliminator due to Amanda Nunes‘ retirement, Mayra Bueno Silva took to the media after the fight to call out Julianna Pena.
The Minas Gerais native locked up a stunning victory by securing an inverted standing guillotine choke on Holm. After this high profile win, Bueno Silva could now be called upon to fight for the vacant 135lb belt. A potential opponent is former champ Julianna Pena who took to twitter after the main event to diminish Silva by claiming she’d beat her and Raquel [Pennington] in the same night.
“Did I hear someone say the name of the #peopleschamp?” Pena tweeted. “Perfect. Get in line. I’ll do you and Raquel in the same night. Who else wants a beating?”
Bueno Silva replies by sending a warning to Julianna Pena
“She’s scared”, claimed Mayra Bueno Silva during the post-fight press conference. “She’s funny. I love you, Julianna [Pena]. But I will smash you. Look at my fight, look at your fight. Oh, Julianna, shut up.”
Mayra Bueno Silva now moves to 11-2-1 with a UFC record of 6-2-1 with another win coming on Dana White’s Contender Series. The submission specialist will be moving up several positions in the rankings when they are released tomorrow with the prospect of a title fight well on the horizon.
Julianna Pena is the most likely fighter to compete for the vacant bantamweight championship as she recently took the belt off Amanda Nunes before dropping it back to her in their next meeting which suggests she deserves another chance at the bantamweight title.
