Megan Anderson interested in boxing after departure from MMA
The former UFC athlete Megan Anderson left the sport of MMA after her defeat to champion Amanda Nunes in 2021. Anderson has since worked as a commentator for Invicta FC where she fought before making it into the UFC. After the Women’s featherweight division was scrapped after UFC 259 Anderson never returned to the sport. Until recently where she spoke about possibly coming to influencer boxing.
Anderson told MMA Fighting:
“I don’t even think I could make 145 pounds anymore. I miss cutting weight. Maybe do like an Influencer boxing bout or something like that down the line.”
“Who knows, ‘cause I just started boxing again like for fun with my trainer, so maybe that but it’s more of like a 20 per cent maybe.”
“I would never do professional boxing.”
Influencer boxing
The athlete has now turned 35 so would be a bit late to the boxing scene. But with the rise in influencer boxing over the past few years it would be the perfect transition for Anderson. Especially with athletes coming from MMA to boxing such as people like Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Paige Vanzant. Companies such as Misfits seem to have Ex UFC fighters or veterans headline cards, and Anderson being a taller bigger fighter the influencer scene would be a perfect place for her to go.
Anderson made it pretty clear she is unlikely to step in the cage again and has no interest in fighting Claressa Shields who recently stepped over to the MMA world in the PFL. But she did mention that ‘if the price is right, you never know’. But she has mentioned that she is happy for now working with Invicta and getting to watch the new era of women’s sport.
Anderson’s Career
Megan Anderson was an Australian women’s featherweight and went (10-5) when leaving the sport. She managed to pick up 6 KOs and 3 submission wins in her professional career. This included some names like Norma Dumont and Cat Zingano. She also faced off with legends such as Holly Holm and women’s GOAT Amanda Nunes.
