Merab Dvalishvili coach labelled his UFC 311 victory as “easy.”
Umar Nurmagomedov started the fight well but fatigue hampered him in round four and five.
Prior to the fight pundits expected the fight to be close but in truth it was a masterclass from the Georgian.
Merab Dvalishvili Coach Labels UFC 311 Victory as “Easy”
Luke Woods who coaches Merab Dvalishvili labelled his fighter’s latest title defence as easy. However, before the fight commentators and fans alike thought it would be a tough result to call. Furthermore, the Georgian fighter suffered many injuries during his fight camp, which hampered the build-up. Speaking to Submission Radio Luke Woods said; “He got his leg cut up on our bleachers. He was walking by the bleachers and literally – you’ll see the pictures come out, I’m sure, in the next few days – cuts all over where he left it. “(He) kept training through it, eventually got it stitched up too late and the stitches busted. And then he restitched it, and then just his whole shin became infected.
It was a concern of even getting cleared for this fight and the infection, the staph infection, it was gone. But the skin we were really afraid of to the point where we got the commission to approve getting it wrapped. So we had that, and basically he couldn’t use that leg for the entire camp.
“Then dealing with being on antibiotics and all that kind of s**t. And then his back, you know? Merab Dvalishvili said it the other day, the UFC Embedded (crew) came by or the Countdown (crew), and he was out doing his workout in the street and he jumped up the wrong way and then pinched a nerve – pinched the vertebrae and couldn’t walk for a week.”
The only thing I’d say is maybe (it was) easier – easier than expected. But it was, you know? That’s not being disrespectful. It’s how good Merab Dvalishvili is. I really want people to start, you know, noticing that.
Umar Nurmagomedov Fails to Capitalise on Early Dominance
Having made a fast start in rounds one and two, Umar Nurmagomedov looked set to claim the bantamweight title. The Russian, who is coached by Khabib, was set to emulate his cousin in holding a UFC title. However, the dreams were short-lived as Merab Dvalishvili showed everyone why he was the champion.
Prior to the fight, it was difficult to predict who would come out on top, but Merab showed his class as Umar faltered. This further emphasised why Merab Dvalishvili is labeled the ‘Machine’ following his high-energy performances. Umar Nurmagomedov began to tire, and the Georgian fighter took advantage and won the final three rounds to reclaim his belt. Merab also called out Sean O’Malley in his Octagon interview.
