UFC bantamweight contender Merab Dvalishvili was spotted climbing into the stands to confront a fan after being provoked.
Just weeks ago, Dvalishvili attained the biggest win of his career when he dominated Petr Yan over a 25-minute bout.
In another world, Dvalishvili would be fighting for the division’s title next, but that’s not the route the Georgian wants to take at this time. Aljamain Sterling, the current bantamweight champion, is also Dvalishvili’s teammate and long-time friend. The pair have always stated they would never fight one another. Sterling is set to face Henry Cejudo at 288, so for now, Dvalishvili looks to continue knocking off the contenders.
On Saturday past, at UFC San Antonio, one fan in the stands brought up the situation between him and Sterling. A comment that he seemed far from pleased with.
Merab Dvalishvili Goes After Fan in Stands at UFC San Antonio
After Dvalishvili launched himself up the railing to get at the fan, the incident quickly de-escalated, with Dvalishvili getting taken away by security.
UFC President Dana White wasn’t impressed with Dvalishvili’s decision to go after a fan in the crowd, stating it wasn’t a good look.
Despite the conundrum, Dvalishivili had to focus back on his fighting career inside the Octagon after Cory Sandhagen called him out during his post-fight interview. Sandhagen defeated No.3 ranked Marlon Vera over five rounds, and connivingly.
The bantamweight division has never been so exciting. It’s unclear who will get the next crack at the winner of Sterling vs. Cejudo, but Sean O’Malley is waiting in the wings, and Sandhagen will have his eyes on a title shot if he gets past Dvalishvili.
