Merab Dvalishvili has reacted to Cory Sandhagen’s post-fight call-out at UFC San Antonio, and he seems to be eager to throw down.
On Saturday past, Sandhagen featured in a main bantamweight event with Marlon Vera in Texas, San Antonio. Sandhagen controlled the fight over the 25 minutes, with Vera offering nothing that caused Sandhagen any concern. Despite a clear dominant display of mixed martial arts, judge Joel Ojeda scored the fight in favor of Vera. Thankfully for Sandhagen, the other two judges scored the fight correctly, resulting in a split decision victory for the 30-year-old.
In his post-fight interview in the Octagon with Michael Bisping, Sandhagen made it clear he wasn’t calling for the next shot at Aljamain Sterling, but he would like to throw down with Sterling’s teammate, Dvalishvili.
Dvalishvili, who was cage side and for the UFC San Antonio main event, was spotted on film by KO Reps on his feet and was flexing at the prospect of competing against Sandhagen next. After the dust had settled in the venue, Dvalishvili took to Twitter to further his acceptance.
Merab Dvalishvili Wants Cory Sandgaen Next Following UFC San Antonio
“Let’s go anytime anywhere,” Dvalishvili said.
Dvalishvili is fresh off his biggest career win to date over former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan. In another world, Dvalishvili’s most recent win would be enough to grant him a title shot. However, the Georgian has expressed on several occasions he has no desire to fight his teammate and friend Sterling, who sits at the top of the bantamweight division.
It has been rumored that Sterling will eventually move to the featherweight division to allow Dvalishvili to achieve a lifelong dream of becoming a UFC world champion. Although, that may have to be delayed for now, with Sterling scheduled to welcome Henry Cejduo back to competition at UFC 288 in New Jersey.
Do you think the next logical move is Cory Sandhagen vs. Merab Dvalishvili in the bantamweight division?
