Merab Dvalishvilli Hopeful for Sean O’Malley Rematch
Merab Dvalishvilli seeks rematch with Sean O’Malley after amazing UFC 311 victory. Saturday night we watched on as Dvalishvilli defended his bantamweight crown in a truly thrilling fight with Umar Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov was 18-0 coming in and was also the betting favorite came on strong in the first two rounds but was stifled in the final three. Much like O’Malley, Nurmagomedov fell under the pressure of Dvalishvill’s cardio onslaught. During this twenty-five minutes, Dvalishvili broke George St.Piere by securing his 91st takedown during the fight with Nurmagomedov. Dvalishvilli being the champion on a twelve (12) fight win streak would make it safe to say Dvalishvilli will probably get his rematch.
Sean O’Malley Knocks People Out
“Sean O’Malley knocks people out!” Maybe we can go toe-to-toe this time.” Dvalishvilli said during the UFC 311 press conference. O’Malley is a 5’11 bantamweight with a record of 18-2 with one no-contest. The previous bantamweight champion lost his title to Dvalshvilli back in the September main event at the Sphere. Dvalishvilli pointed out during the press conference that O’Malley was complaining about something after the loss. Dvalishvilli also went on to say that he believes that O’Malley stands a chance in the rematch and he really would enjoy that rematch. No matter if it’s the O’Malley rematch or someone new Dvalishvilli’s messages are the same I’m ready.
Dvalishvilli’s 12 Fight Win Streak
Riding the wave of a twelve (12) fight win streak Dvalishvilli says he will be ready in seven (7) days! Receiving a week-long medical suspension after his title fight Dvalishvilli is already verbally hunting his next fight. The list of names that lie in Dvalishvillis’s wake reads like a who’s who of bantamweight Petr Yan, Henry Cejudo, Jose Aldo, and Sugar Sean. It’s not hard to see why the UFC gave him the undefeated Nurmagomedov and why he is already doubling back to the man most people thought would be him. Sean O’Malley if he takes the rematch only time will tell but one thing we do know if he does we will all be waiting in the wings to see the outcome of this story.
Umar’s Injury
During his title fight, Umar Nurmagomedov broke his left hand at some point during the first round. Breaking one of your weapons during one of the largest moments of your life is shambles. Doing it for the Bantamweight Title fight against Dvalishvilli a man who has not tasted defeat in twelve (12) professional fights. Well that’s just a tough break all around Dvalishvilli says it’s part of the job. He also claims that the injury would not have happened if Nurmagomedov had not fought or been in a fight, a sentient echoed previously by the commentary team. Those are all things of the past Dvalishvilli is looking towards the future and a possible rematch with Sugar Sean.
