Micah Matibiri is confident his Almighty Fighting Championship 32 bout will be “done in one”.
Matibiri enters his bout next Saturday in Deeside, Wales, filled with confidence and rightly so. Making his debut earlier this year, Matibiri successfully defeated Mithcell Monger on his debut then followed that up with a win over Kuba Ogorek.
Ahead of fight night, we managed to get a word with Micah Matibiri to see how he was feeling ahead of battle.
Interview With Micah Matibiri
Michal, it’s been a very successful debut year for you, going 2-0. How pleased are you with the year you’ve had so far, and was activity always something you wanted to get in your first year competing?
Activity is something I was definitely aiming for. Ideally, I would’ve wanted to get at least five fights this year, but the fight game is unpredictable. As I see it, your activity as a fighter is very important, especially at this level. The more I get in there, the better I get, and it’ll show every time.
In your two fights, you’ve encountered two very different fights. One being a first-round stoppage and the other being a three-round banked. What are some of the biggest lessons these fights have taught you that you’re going to be implementing at Almighty FC?
The past two fights were really good for me. I’ve learnt I can deal with pressure and adversity in different scenarios back to back with tough opponents. I’ve also managed to pick up on my energy efficiency and how in hand it goes with the weight cut, so be ready to see the most high-paced, filled, in-shape version of me ready to smack someone around the cage for three rounds straight non-stop.
Micah Matibiri on First Two Amateur Fights
You’ve showcased that you’re a real prospect and talent in your first two fights. However, is there anything that you feel you’ve not shown us yet, and can we expect to see that next Saturday?
Like I said, after my debut fight, I’m next up on the scene, and the people are finally starting to notice I’m a problem for these featherweights, even this early on. I do feel like I’ve just come into the cage and caused chaos, which is something you can always expect from me. The only difference in this next fight will be people noticing how calculated I can be. I’m really good at mixing up my game, whether I want to choke you out or bounce your head off the canvas. By the time they figure out what I want to do, it’ll be too late. I need to show these guys I’m on a different level.
You will clash with Kieran Baines on the night. What do you know about your opponent, and how do you feel you match up against one another from what you’ve seen?
As far as my opponent, all I know is he’s my next victim. I’m a Mercenary; they put a name in front of me, and I go do what needs to be done. I’ve prepared for them like it’s a world championship fight, so if they come in with anything less skill-wise, it’ll be an easy night in the office for me. On the bright side, they’ll have the rest of the year to recover from the damage I put on him; if he planned to fight any time soon after, then the kid’s fans are gonna be disappointed.
Final Thoughts
When you watch his only fight back? What do you see? Is there anything in there that you’re overly concerned with, or do you anticipate dealing with what he brings comfortably?
I’m not concerned about him, but that doesn’t mean I’m overlooking him. I’m blessed with a gym of the most skilled fighters in the world with all different styles to help me deal with anything I might face. The bad thing about me is you can watch all my fights and still not be ready for what I bring. My wrestling is too strong, so I can take it down when I feel like it, and I’m carrying bombs in my fists so I can put him out with the wind from my shots. It’s not a matter of if I win, but when I win, I’ll be looking at cementing myself as one of the best fighters coming out of the country who’s looking to come and grab all the belts real soon.
Finally, leave us with your official prediction and what those attending can expect to see from you.
I predict it’ll be done in one. Let’s hope he proves me wrong so I can show out a little more for the good people coming out to watch. Regardless, at the end of the night, I’ll be walking out of the arena 3-0.
