Interview With Micah Matibiri
We are now in fight week, Micah, and Saturday night, you make the walk to the cage for the first time. Firstly, let the viewers know a little bit about yourself and how long you’ve been training.
I’m Micah Matibiri. I’m a charismatic guy with a lot of flairs that likes to travel the world as well as punch people in the face, I’d say I’ve been training in MMA for almost two years now, but I’d say that was more than enough time for me to realise that this is the game I wanna take over and I’m next up.
Mental preparation plays a huge factor in the art of war! With that said, how’s the mental space just five days out from fight night? Are you filled with confidence? Nerves? Anxiety, or just a bit of everything at the moment?
Mentally I’d definitely say I’m filled with confidence, but I can definitely feel the pressure. It’s the pressure I put on myself, though, to perform because I know what I’m capable of, so I can’t settle for anything less than the best in anything I set out to do.
What pursued you to want to walk through the doors of an MMA gym and begin training up until this point?
I really feel like it was just God that set me on the MMA route. I didn’t have a crazy backstory; I just walked into a gym one day and fell for the sport, I always knew about it, but until I tried it for myself, I had never paid too much attention to it, the fact I could make a living out of fighting too just happened to be a massive motivator for me to continue training and keep grinding to be better.
Micah Matibiri Talks Debut
Debuts are a big thing in fighters’ martial arts journeys. Can we expect family and friends to make some noise in attendance?
I’m definitely gonna have some friends and family attending, a lot of the people that have been supporting the journey since day one. I definitely have to show out for them, they’ve been dying to see me in the cage for a while, and I’m definitely gonna make it worth the wait.
You’ll be sharing the card with your teammate Saturday night. How much extra motivation does that give you when preparing for the fight grinding with your partners in the gym?
I feel like for any fighter having a teammate on the same card as you are the best motivator out there. Having the fearless teammates on the card has pushed me to heights I hadn’t hit before in training because we all know what’s at stake, and we can’t afford to lose and let someone take what we work so hard for day in and out, Josh is an absolute killer, and Jack is someone I look at as a pro at this rate, the Fearless Takeover is in full force, looking to show the world we’re easily up there with the best gyms in the world.
You mentioned you’d been seriously putting in that work. Give the viewers a tease. What can we expect to see from Micah Matibiri come Saturday night?
I can tell the viewers now they are either in for an absolute war or they’re about to witness a live decapitation; I just really hope God forgives me for what I did to that man in the cage; I’m worried imma struggling to find opponents after I kill the kid.
Opposition
You’ll meet Mitchell Monger, who also makes his debut on Saturday night. I assume camps have just been tailored to focus on yourself, as you won’t have any idea the style he will enter the cage with.
The camps have definitely just been focused on me and making sure I’m at my peak, and I give a performance that steals the show. I’m a fighter that can give people problems anywhere because I’m comfortable everywhere, and that alone should scare Mitch. Most guys can look to resort to standing up or on the ground when they are losing in a certain area, but it’s the worst situation to be in when the guy you’re fighting is just better than you everywhere. I’m probably the worst fight you could have when I’m on point, especially for a debut fight.
Finally, highlight what it would mean to you for all your hard work to be rewarded this Saturday at Golden Ticket Fight Promotions 22.
Getting the win this Saturday will mean a lot, but I know I definitely can’t get comfortable and sleep on it. There’s always gonna be someone else gunning for where I wanna be, but I’m really a gun with no safety, and I’m looking to shoot anyone in my way. The hard work will only pay off when I’m flooded with gold.
