Michael Bisping has been left unimpressed by Jake Paul after the influencer-turned-boxer’s first-round knockout over Ryan Bourland on Saturday, saying that ‘he is disrespecting the sport of boxing.’
Michael Bisping Outburst Over Jake Paul Boxing Match
The internet sensation, Paul, touted Ryan Bourland as a former Golden Gloves champion which got people invested, at first. Although, as soon as the first bell rang, the audience knew they would be in for a short viewing.
The former UFC middleweight champion opened his recent YouTube video by labelling Jake Paul as a ‘fake’ due to his antics.
Bisping said: “He is disrespecting the sport of boxing. He’s disrespecting all the people that worked their way up, but more importantly, he’s conning the fans.
“If Ryan Bourland is your next Uber driver, give him five stars and give him a good tip. Beating people that you know you can beat, that’s called being a bully.”
What is Different About Jake Paul’s Pathway?
After ‘The Problem Child’s’ split decision loss to Tommy Fury, his focus has altered to journeyman-like boxers. A similar route to what up-and-coming boxers take to gain confidence and build skill level.
The pathway is believable, but Michael Bisping is not buying it.
He said: “When [up-and-coming boxers are building their record], they’re not top of the bill, they’re not heading the marquee, they’re not charging the buying public $50 on pay-per-view.
“The reason I said that he is a fake is because if you’re charging pay-per-view, you have to give the people a real fight. Not handpicked, cherry-picked opponents.
“If he was to fight [an upcoming professional], I would give him a lot of respect. But cherry-picking these has-beens that are under-sized and are not motivated and are just there for the payday. That doesn’t get my respect.”
The Co-Main Becoming The Main Event
Amanda Serrano was meant to headline the show in Puerto Rico, but the women’s featherweight world champion was declared medically unfit to fight due to an eye injury, as per Most Valuable Promotions.
The co-main, including Paul, became the main event and this was not received well by the home crowd, who echoed boos around the arena.
Nakisa Bidarian, the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, stated that the record-breaking sales of $1.5 million would be fully refunded to all fans in attendance.
Losing that money on one event will be hard-hitting, so maybe Jake Paul is not just in it for the money after all.
