Michael Bisping has supported Jon Anik and addressed Colby Covington’s threats following UFC 286.
Covington has been out of action since his unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal last March. Despite both men setting their differences in a legal manner inside the UFC’s Octagon, Masvidal followed it up by assaulting his former friend-and-training partner in Miami outside of a steakhouse. The incident has been hanging over both men’s heads for over a year.
Last Saturday at UFC 286, the community was stunned when ‘Chaos’ landed in London and weighed in as the backup fighter for the title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman. During the post-fight press conference, Dana White confirmed that Covington would be the next man to challenge Edwards. However, the Brit showed no desire to hand Covington an opportunity due to his lack of activity over the last year.
Belal Muhammad, who has been climbing and picking up wins over notable names in the division, also expressed his frustration at Covington being the next contender in line. The 34-year-old hasn’t remained silent and has voiced his opinions on the situation over social media since the announcement was made. Muhammad also addressed the matter in an interview with Anik.
Michael Bisping Shows Support for UFC Broadcaster Jon Anik
After the interview had aired to the public, Covington threatened the fan-favorite UFC commentator. As expected, the community gathered together to show their support for Anik, and one of them was his broadcaster partner, Bisping. The former UFC middleweight champion praised Anik in a recent YouTube video on his channel for the way he conducts himself and his professionalism.
“Jon Anik is a professional. He is the most professional person,” Michael Bisping said on his YouTube channel. “Colby Covington, he took exception to that in the biggest way possible.” (h/t MMA Fighting)
He continued, “Colby Covington’s threatening to kill Jon Anik. Uhh, but he’s not. He’s playing the game. Jon Anik, he’s in the clear. He’s not gonna get murdered, he’s not being unprofessional. He’s just stating facts. The reality is it’s not hard to feel bad for Belal. The man has won eight in a row. He does have unfinished business with Leon Edwards. Now, of course, Colby Covington lost two title fights in a row to Kamaru Usman — beat Tyron Woodley [in between] — last time out, he went out there and beat Jorge Masvidal and he hasn’t fought for what’s been about a year now.”
