On Friday, former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and Anthony Smith, a current top 10 contender in the UFC light heavyweight division, discussed the effects of brain loss on their podcast, ‘Believe You Me’ after the shocking news of Phil Baroni’s arrest in Mexico after the alleged murder of his girlfriend.
Earlier this week, news broke that a former UFC fighter was arrested in Mexico due to accusations of murdering his girlfriend. Baroni has had an unfortunate reputation over the years for erratic behavior, which is more suspected to be related to brain damage, as recently stated by a former friend Josh Barnett. After Baroni’s consistent erratic behavior, Barnett had to distance himself from the matter.
Michael Bisping and Anthony Smith Discuss Long Last Effects of Head Trauma
Whilst discussing the matter on Bisping’s podcast, Anthony Smith had this to say on the matter:
“I’m not a doctor. I’m no neurologist. I don’t know s**t about f**k, but it’s not an accident that there Is some guys out there, not just in our sport. but in other sports, that have some real severe head trauma, and then over the years, they begin to change…”
Bisping and Smith then go on to talk about how celebrities and social media influencers are coming into MMA and Boxing as a quick money grab and how the sport seems at first to be “free” in a sense, meaning that you begin with little injuries and nothing long-lasting, but as you get further into your career, you begin to pay your dues in a sense. Bisping then begins to talk about the current injuries he’s sustained from his legendary career. It’s well known by now that Bisping fought with one eye towards the end of his career and now lives with it daily, but as he’s recently stated that he’s broken his back in two places.
Bisping now being a commentator regularly, and Smith is an analyst for ESPN calm that they are now used to people being knocked out after seeing it so close and personal regularly, so now that they have such prominent positions in the sport, they wish to make everyone who wishes to start a career in MMA that they are well aware of the consequences.
