British MMA legend Michael Bisping has called out for tougher rules regarding eye pokes in the UFC. With Henry Cejudo losing yet again, is retirement beckoning for ‘Triple C’?
Bisping is vocal on the subject due to his prosthetic eye caused whilst competing.
Michael Bisping Calls for Tougher Rules on Eye Pokes
Following this weekend’s UFC event, Henry Cejudo lost to Song Yadong. However, the fight was marred by an eye poke which hampered the American’s vision late into the fight. Michael Bisping, who suffered a devastating injury following a kick by Vitor Belfort, has since had his eye removed.
As a result of this weekend’s event Michael Bisping via his YouTube channel said; “There was about a minute left when the eye poke happened. Number one, I think we should’ve seen a point deduction. I don’t say that because I want to see Song Yadong’s career jeopardized or anything like that.”
“I have a lot of respect for (Yadong’s) whole team but the eye pokes, people need to know that there’s f****** consequence, eye pokes are terrible, you know all about my history with the eyes, eye pokes are bad.”
Michael Bisping went to say; “If you start taking points, people will stop stretching their f****** fingers out.”
“And when the third round started, there was only a minute left. Song Yadong had his fingers out, and so did Henry Cejudo!”
“I’m like, ‘Why isn’t the referee saying anything? Something needs to be done, stricter penalties need to be in place, there needs to be immediate consequences for people poking fighters in the eye. It’s as simple as that.”
Henry Cejudo Tough Return Continues
Once regarded as the greatest bantamweight of all time, Henry Cejudo’s return to the sport has been nothing short of a nightmare. Following consecutive losses to Aljamain Sterling and Merab Dvalishvili, the American has seen his career stall. Cejudo has gone from champion to contender.
As a result, many fans are skeptical if ‘Triple C’ will ever return to the Octagon. Saturday’s result has just added fuel to the fire. Fans have flooded to social media with many saying Cejudo should retire before he taints his legacy any further.
