Michael Bisping is a man who knows a thing or two about the ups and downs of the MMA world. He has recently come to the defence of UFC Welterweight and ‘BMF’ title holder Jorge Masvidal, despite his recent losses.
Two men who haven’t seen eye to eye at times. Recent years have seen the fighters form a newfound respect for one another. With each man being a true fighter’s fighter it is no surprise the pair have set differences aside.
Jorge Masvidal is currently on a three-fight skid. Losing two fights for the belt against former champion Kamaru Usman. As well as a further bout with bitter rival and top contender Colby Covington. Fans have been quick to write him off and claim the early run that saw him gain superstardom was ‘lucky’.
What Michael Bisping Said
Michael Bisping has jumped to defend Jorge, claiming MMA fans can be “fickle”. Vehemently defending the amazing streak that saw Jorge earn his title shot.
On his YouTube channel, Michael said: “The 2019 run of Jorge Masvidal was incredible. He knocked out Darren Till. He knocked out Ben Askren and scored the quickest knockout ever in UFC history, and then beat down Nate Diaz (and) became the BMF.”
Stating the facts Michael would continue slating fans who have dismissed the abilities of Masvidal. “But then he lost three in a row. (He lost) two to Kamaru Usman, one to Colby Covington, and for some reason, MMA fans – they are so quick to write people off. They are so fickle.”
What’s Next?
Now without a fight, the current #11 Welterweight is looking to enter the cage again soon. With recent verbals traded with Gilbert Burns unlikely to come to fruition with the Brazilian being booked elsewhere. A long-running rivalry with champion Leon Edwards will also likely fall short, with the UFC opting for a Kamaru Usman rematch for the Brit.
Michael once again gave his opinion and stated that Masvidal will bounce back due to his “old-school mentality”.
“The thing about Masvidal and the thing that everyone respects is that he’ll fight everybody, he will. He tried fighting me. He’s a natural fighter and he’s one of those guys that’s cut from that old-school mentality.”
“He’s not an athlete, he’s not one of the best wrestlers, he’s not one of the best kickboxers. But, he’s one of the best fighters. He has got [a] fighter’s heart and mentality and brain. He’s as game as they come.”
