Michael Bisping says that Khamzat Chimaev is the “legit bad guy” of the UFC following his weight controversy at UFC 279 and subsequent behaviour.
There’s no shortage of fighters who display a bad guy alter ego in the UFC. Most notably Conor McGregor and Colby Covington. Who are known for trash talk, riling up mma fans online, and creating controversial moments. Although many disagree with this behaviour, it has shown to be very successful. Khamzat has recently caused rifts within the mma community after his recent behaviour at UFC 279.
Khamzat Chimaev Recent Behaviour
Chimaev took part in a backstage brawl prior to the UFC 279 press conference, where he pushed and kicked Kevin Holland in the chest. He then missed weight by 7.5lbs, forcing a huge change to the UFC main event and other fights. Chimaev seemed to not have a care in the world that he missed weight and even flipped off the media. This made fans angry and confused as he had never shown this carelessness before. Following this, he took on Kevin Holland in a catchweight bout. Here, he faked a glove touch at the start of the round and shot a takedown on the UFC star. All of this behaviour has caused fans and now UFC legend Micheal Bisping to call him out, with Bisping dubbing Chimaev as a “legit bad guy”.
Bisping’s Comments on Khamzat
Michael Bisping recently said the following on his you tube channel, “The UFC officially has a new supervillain. I am of course talking about Khamzat Chimaev. The Wolf. When he walked out to that fight, the boos from the crowd were like nothing I’ve ever heard. He didn’t make weight, he blamed it on the doctor. But then afterwards, he didn’t give a s**t he’s talking s**t, then he’s talking about killing people left right and centre. Last thing you want to do is walk out there and there’s a little golf clap. Well out there, Saturday night, 95% of the crowd wanted him to get his head popped off. “He’s a legit bad guy. He’s straight out of a Bond movie. The way he looks, the way he talks. “Brother, I’m going to kill everybody!” The look, the lip, everything all about it.
Bisping believes that the UFC should make a fight between Chimaev and Covington at welterweight, despite Khamzat’s dramatic weight miss. Jon Anik also recently called for this fight. Bisping said the following ” Colby Covington is one that I’d love to see. Colby is a fantastic wrestler himself, so could he nullify the wrestling of Khamzat? He’s is a cardio king, would he be able to outlast Khamzat and take him to the later round? There’s a lot of questions.”
A potential match up between Covington and Chimaev would definitely get the fans talking!
