Seemingly in the prime of his career, Kevin Holland recently announced his retirement. Much to the shock of fans and supporters worldwide. After announcing his retirement via social media earlier this week, Holland left many fans confused and questioning this decision. UFC legend Michael Bisping shared his thoughts on the situation.
Michael Bisping Gives His Thoughts on Kevin Holland’s Retirement
Recently speaking on a podcast, Michael Bisping said the following “That’s bulls**it. Kevin Holland is a great fighter. He’s very well-known. He won the 2020 fighter of the year. He’s a favourite. He’s making money. He loves shiny things. I’m talking about gold and jewellery, and stuff like that. And he wants to buy a lot more of it. He’s in the prime of his life. If he was quitting, walking away, he would at least jazz u a little touch. As opposed to using a font last seen on an Atari game system (referencing Holland’s Instagram story caption).”
“There’s no way. He’s a very stylish guy. He’s not announcing his retirement in a font from a ZX Spectrum. I don’t think he’s retiring at all. I don’t know what he’s playing at.” Bisping added. He went on to theorise why Holland wants to retire. Bisping believes that Holland is at a low point of his career after a devastating loss to Khamzat Chimeav in the first round via submission.
Bisping went on to say: The reality is when you lose a fight, and that was a big fight with a lot of spotlight on it, against a guy like Khamzat Chimeav, and you get beaten. You just try to stop being entertaining for a second and really look at it. Maybe he’s going through a low period of depression right now. Maybe he’s deflated. That would be a better word. He’s a great fighter with a tremendous amount of opportunity, and maybe he’s gone out there and fought Khamzat and thought, ‘Sh*t wow’. The fact that he rag dolled me like that, with respect, is kind of what happened.
The Future for Kevin Holland
It’s clear to see that Bisping fully expects Holland to return to the Octagon. Only time will tell if Kevin Holland will make a comeback, as he still has many years left in the fight game. After losing to Chimeav, Holland immediately called out Daniel Rodriguez. This fight was due to take place before the re-shuffling of the card following Chimeav missing weight. Since this, Rodriguez is booked to fight Neil Magny instead.
With the D-Rod fight having slipped away, who should Holland face next if he chooses to return?
