Michael Chandler Calls Out Conor McGregor at UFC 309
Michael Chandler used his post-fight interview at UFC 309 to send a bold challenge to Conor McGregor. Despite losing a hard-fought battle against Charles Oliveira via unanimous decision, Chandler’s gutsy performance earned him admiration from fans and fighters alike.
Michael Chandler vs. Charles Oliveira – A Fight for the Ages
The Madison Square Garden crowd was on its feet as Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler delivered a thrilling contest in the co-main event of UFC 309. Oliveira dominated the early rounds, showcasing his grappling prowess and nearly finishing Chandler with several submission attempts.
Chandler, however, refused to back down. In the fifth round, he launched a ferocious offensive, rocking Oliveira with a barrage of punches and hammer fists. At one point, Chandler even picked up Oliveira and slammed him twice to the canvas, showcasing incredible strength and determination.
Despite his valiant effort, Chandler fell short on the judges’ scorecards, with all three judges scoring the fight in Oliveira’s favor: 49-46, 49-45, and 49-45.
Michael Chandler’s Chandler’s Message to Conor McGregor
Chandler’s post-fight interview with Joe Rogan was packed with emotion and fire. While reflecting on the fight, Chandler seized the moment to call out Conor McGregor.
“Joe, all I know how to do is throw American badass caution to the wind,” Chandler began, addressing the crowd. “Madison Square Garden, are you not entertained?”
He continued, “Forget calling out Islam; Charles is doing that next. Maybe Max Holloway for the BMF belt. Or Conor McGregor, if you can ever get your house back in order while us real professionals have been keeping the Octagon warm.”
In a direct challenge to McGregor, Chandler added, “We are wondering where you have been, Conor. Come back and beat me, if you can.”
A Delayed Showdown
Chandler and McGregor were originally scheduled to fight in June, but the bout was canceled after McGregor suffered a broken toe in sparring. Chandler, who had waited nearly two years for the opportunity, pivoted to rematch Oliveira at UFC 309.
With McGregor still sidelined, Chandler’s callout serves as a reminder of the unfinished business between the two. Fans continue to clamor for the matchup, which promises to be one of the biggest events in MMA history.
What’s Next for Chandler?
While Chandler’s loss to Oliveira might have set him back in the lightweight title picture, his performance proved that he remains one of the most exciting fighters in the division. A potential fight with McGregor would be a massive draw, but Chandler also hinted at other possibilities, including a bout with Max Holloway for the BMF belt.
As for Oliveira, his victory likely sets him up for a title shot against Islam Makhachev, leaving Chandler to explore other high-profile matchups.
