UFC Lightweight Michael Chandler has teased a potential reschedule for his long-awaited fight with Conor McGregor
International Fight Week has been a rollercoaster of an event and fight week has only just begun. Four fights have already been cancelled and reschudled ahead of UFC 303 including the main and co-main event.
Intended to be a celebration of all things MMA and the history and characters of the sport, International Fight Week has been far from celebratory. Starting with the co-main event when Khalil Rountree Jr pulled out of his fight against Jamahall Hill.
Following this, the UFC booked Carlos Ulberg to step in for Khalil on short notice. Despite thinking the co-main was saved, it was Hill’s turn to spoil the party withdrawing due to injury.
Then the co-main event stood as Anthony Smith versus Carlos Ulberg. Ultimately Ulberg would then pull out as well.
Seemingly stuck for options the UFC called Roman Dolidze who saved the day by stepping in to face Antony Smith on 8 days’ notice. Unfortunately, the co-main event wasn’t the only headache for the UFC.
Michael Chandler Hints at New Date for Conor McGregor Clash
The fight on which the event was built around was the long-awaited showdown of Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. The two faced off initially as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter back in May 2023.
However, since then fans have been glued to every cryptic McGregor tweet awaiting his return to combat sports. Following his leg break back in 2022 it seemed that the Mac was back at UFC 303.
The score-settling bout was due to take place on UFC 303 until Conor McGregor had to withdraw after sustaining a broken toe. The wait for Chandler would continue after years of pursuing the Irishman.
Although the cancellation casted doubt over the event the UFC found a more than substantial replacement. The rematch between Light-Heavyweight champions Alex Pereira versus Jiri Prochazka.
In a recent tweet, Chandler reignited hopes for those disappointed by the cancellation:
“Time well spent in progress is never time wasted. New date LOADING. Walk On. See you at the top!”
Despite not having a definitive date Michael Chandler seems to have fight news. He, along with UFC fans will be excited to see his return after a near 2 year hiatus from the octagon.
Confirmation of whether the man standing across from him will be McGregor will hopefully follow soon.
