Former lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler remains determined to fight Conor McGregor.
The pair were initially booked to clash in February 2023, while the two also filmed The Ultimate Fighter, though their rivalry never culminated in a bout. They were then salted to headline UFC 303 in June 2024. However, McGregor broke his pinky toe in training and withdrew from the fight. This injury would end up sidelining him for the rest of the year.
Frustrated by the delay, Chandler opted to face Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 on November 16th 2024. Where Oliveira survived a late scare to secure a unanimous decision victory.
Michael Chandler Eyes Conor McGregor in 2025, Calls Out Jorge Masvidal for UFC Comeback Fight
Michael Chandler recently hosted a social media Q&A, inviting his fans to ask about his recent loss and future in the Octagon.
Amid questions about his next move, Chandler confirmed that a fight with Conor McGregor remains a possibility for 2025. Responding to a fan who suggested he fight sooner, Michael Chandler stated;
“I don’t think so. I was present in there. Conor in 2025.”
However, the 38-year-old has made it clear that Conor McGregor is just one of several potential opponents. Chandler also called out UFC legend Jorge Masvidal, who is planning an April comeback despite retiring last year.
Masvidal, who transitioned into boxing during his hiatus, is seeking an opponent for his UFC return. Chandler eagerly threw his name into the mix, saying during the Q&A;
“Where you at, Jorge?”
Michael Chandler Clarifies Oliveira Comments
During a recent Twitter Q&A, Michael Chandler addressed comments that sparked ridicule among MMA fans.
UFC 309 marked Michale Chandler’s second loss to Charles Oliveira, who had also defeated him via knockout at UFC 262 in their battle for lightweight gold.
Despite this, Michael Chandler told Ariel Helwani, “I believe I beat Charles Oliveira nine times out of 10. Obviously, I’ve lost to him twice now. Two out of two. I have a 100 percent loss rate to Charles Oliveira.”
Acknowledging the criticism Chandler said;
“I understand why people might tsk at that, roll their eyes. But I just am so unhappy with the performance.”
After being roasted by online trolls, Michael Chandler clarified his statement to a fan by saying;
“Clarification… 9 out of the next 10 times.”
While a trilogy fight against Oliveira seems unlikely for now, Michael Chandler has his sights set on 2025 bouts, with Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal.
