UFC Welterweight veteran and sports analyst Michael Chiesa has pitched a new opponent for Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya
After nearly a year away from competition Israel Adesanya returned earlier this month at UFC 305. He faced current Middleweight champion and rival Dricus Du Plessis.
Unfortunately for Adesanya, he came up short losing via submission in the fourth round. Despite losing he put on an exciting performance reminiscent of the Stylebender of old.
After the fight, the two rivals settled their differences and admitted to being “fans” of one another. Now 1-3 in his last four fights Israel is looking for new opposition to get him back in the mix for a title shot.
Some speculated after the fight that Adesanya may retire after he removed his gloves following his loss to Du Plessis. But in his octagon interview, he put the speculation to bed saying: “I’m not leaving!”
Back amongst the Middleweight contenders, UFC analyst Michael Chiesa proposed a thrilling opponent for Adesanya to square off against next.
Michael Chiesa Pitches “Very Fun Fight” for Israel Adesanya Next
Michael Chiesa told ESPN he would like to see Israel Adesanya face a fellow fan favourite in Jiri Prochazka.
Stating:
“I don’t see him in a position where he’s not in a main event spot. But this is what I am going to say: [the MMA community] been tossing around this rumor that Jiří Procházka might be coming down to middleweight.
And, if that may be true, I am all-in for an Israel Adesanya-Jiří Procházka main event in Australia or New Zealand. I’m just throwing it out there. I think that would be a very fun fight.”
Chiesa is not wrong that this fight has fireworks written all over it. With both fighters coming off losses and both renowned kickboxers, fans would certainly go crazy for this matchup
With Jiri Prochazka having shown interest in a move down in weight to seek success after losing to Middleweight champion Alex Pereira, this fight could potentially be on the horizon. Prochazka’s interest in fighting Dricus Du Plessis would certainly get answered if he was to beat former challenger Adesanya.
A fantastic suggestion of two of the biggest names in the sport, but will the UFC show the same interest in this contest?
