In a move that has shocked everyone. News has just been announced that top Bellator welterweight Michael Venom Page will enter the world of bare-knuckle boxing. Taking on former UFC brawler Mike Perry. The fight will take place at BKFC 27, in London on the 20th of August.
Michael Page
Recently unsuccessful in his quest for interim welterweight gold at Bellator 281. Michael is entering the bare-knuckle promotions for the first time. Still, under contract with Bellator, this deal appears to be a one-off. Getting the green light from the organisation could be the start of some interesting opportunities elsewhere.
After being on the losing side of a wrestle heavy gameplay last time out, Page will be looking to show off his incredible stand-up skills in this one. A brilliant and dynamic striker, the bare-knuckle world could suit the Brit to a tee. Also competing in both boxing and kickboxing as a pro he’s no stranger to this area.
At 35, with a pro-MMA record of 20-2, Michael has established himself as one of the best in the world. A true entertainer in every sense, this match up against Mike Perry could provide box-office viewing both in and out of the ring.
Mike Perry
His opponent on the night will be former UFC wild man Mike Perry. Since leaving the world’s premier MMA organisation mid last year, Perry has begun to find his success in bare-knuckle boxing. Competing in a triad mixed rules bout last November, Mike then found his way to BKFC.
Making his maiden bare-knuckle appearance in February this year. He defeated TUF alumni Julian Lane via unanimous decision, which saw both fighters “banging” it out. Mike was known for his entertaining kill or be killed style in MMA which saw him gain a 14-8 record.
Looking to add a huge name to his resume, a win over Michael Page will no doubt propel Perry onto bigger things.
The Fight
A true brawler (Mike Perry) versus a stand-up wizard (MVP) this fight will be fireworks. Two of the most entertaining fighters both in their craft and when promoting, it seems the matchmakers have done a tremendous job with this fight.
With this being a one-fight deal expect Michael to make the most of this extra limelight and put on a show. Mike, on the other hand, should never be counted out, tough as they come and always game. Make sure you tune in.
What other fighters could you see make the jump elsewhere in future?
