Michael ‘Venom’ Page makes his UFC debut at UFC 299 against Kevin Holland, but he is already dreaming of an Old Trafford title fight against Leon Edwards in the future.
If MVP’s dream were to come true, it would be the first time in UFC history that two Brits go head-to-head in a championship bout.
Michael ‘Venom’ Page Wants an all-British Title Fight With Leon Edwards
As an avid Manchester United fan, the 36-year-old’s dream venue would be his favourite football club’s stadium. He said to SPORTbible: “Oh yeah, it has to be [a stadium show against Edwards]. I just think it’s great for the UK.
“I’m going to keep saying it, Old Trafford. I’m a [Manchester] United supporter, so it’ll be great for multiple reasons. But either way, I’m saying I don’t care as long as it’s in the UK, in a stadium and we’ll sell it out.”
‘Rocky’ was brought onto the Villa Park pitch when his team, Aston Villa, beat Burnley 3-2 just before the new year. Presented with his welterweight belt, which he retained over Colby Covington earlier that month, Edwards said: “I will defend my belt in April at UFC 300 in Vegas again, then hopefully in the summertime get a fight back home in Birmingham at Villa Park.”
Despite the 170-pound champion not appearing at UFC 300, Edwards has been in negotiations for a while to get his hometown fight sealed for summer 2024.
Page has a lot of praise for Edwards, but reveals the way Edwards promotes himself is not ideal for him.
Kevin Holland is Still a Threat
Page said: “It’s not good enough. Because if he did, he definitely would have got the [title] fight way sooner.
“I think it’s just the lack of marketing, but because of his lack of marketing, he’s had to fight some killers to get to where he’s got to, which says a lot about how good he is.
“He’s made it to the top and [Leon Edwards] is a great champion.”
Although the former Bellator title contender dreams of UFC glory one day, Page’s self-confidence is sky-high before facing number 13 ranked welterweight, Kevin Holland.
He said: “It’s always been the MVP story. The only thing I care about now is the belt.”
Coming off a split-decision loss to Jack Della Maddalena, ‘Big Mouth’ needs to bounce back quickly if he wants to continue climbing up the rankings.
Meanwhile, MVP will look to make a good first impression when he comes up against a tough first opponent.
