Michael Page made his return to the cage at Bellator 292 to take on grappling specialist Goiti Yamauchi. With a clash of styles as old as mixed martial arts itself. It left many wondering how this version of the striker vs grappler showdown would play out.
For Michael ‘Venom’ Page, it was a short night at the office. Starting in his usual bouncy stance it didn’t take long before the Brit landed the crucial fight-ending blow.
At just 26 seconds MVP would unleash a devastating kick to the leg of Yamauchi landing flush on the Brazilian’s kneecap. Usually, this would have little to no effect on the fighter and would be considered a ‘check’. However, Page is no ordinary fighter.
When Page landed the kick it would shatter the knee of Yamauchi ending the fight in just 26 seconds, declaring MVP the winner via KO.
A standup specialist of the highest order. ‘Venom’ has now accrued an incredible 21-2 record with an equally impressive 12 KO/TKO finishes on his resume. This puts Michael as the all-time leader in finishes in Bellator MMA.
With an already revered back catalogue of highlight stoppages. MVP adds this knee break, to two of MMA’s other most brutal stoppages, both caused by his limbs. With Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos suffering a fractured skull and Richard Kiely an inverted nose thanks to Page.
With all this being said, we wish Goiti Yamauchi a speedy and healthy recovery and hope the injury isn’t as serious as it looks.
