UFC lightweight Mike Davis will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon this Saturday at UFC Vegas 61.
After a late opponent switch, he will now face Viacheslav Borshchev in the main card opener. Ahead of his return, Davis has spoke about a potential future matchup with Paddy The Baddy.
Mike Davis vs. Paddy Pimblett?
29-year-old Davis’ last fight came in January 2021. A FOTN victory over Mason Jones on Fight Island. Since then, the lightweight has taken some time away from the sport. With plans to meet Jai Herbert in London in March, Davis has been made to wait for his return.
As most UFC athletes have in recent months, Davis has shared his thoughts on Paddy Pimblett. As well as explaining whether he believes there’s potential for a matchup between the two in the future.
“He’s in my weight class, so there’s always potential for a matchup there. Personality-wise, he’s just living his life. I guess he brings it from outside, into the cage, and he doesn’t really change. He’s being himself, and he’s enjoying it. It’s honestly what makes him a good fighter.
“Skill-wise, I don’t see his striking as a skill. He kind of just blatantly throws punches, winging for the wild. He gets dropped every fight. I know he mentioned that, that he never got knocked out, or something like that. But he gets knocked down every fight or rocked, at least. And that’s not good. It’s not good to get rocked. It’s not something to be proud of.
“I do see his wrestling isn’t great, but his grappling is pretty good. Yeah, any potential matchup in the future is definitely there. I know I’m probably a bigger person. I’ve never been a smaller fighter. Even at 155, I’ve always been the bigger athlete.”
