Mike Perry has revealed that he was close to making a UFC return before negotiations with UFC matchmaker Hunter Campbell went downhill.
During his time in the UFC Perry never got into the discussion for a title. However, he was able to earn victories over Paul Felder and Mickey Gall. Despite moving over to BKFC Perry hasn’t closed the door for a return to the MMA world. Perry has even hinted at making a comeback, however after a recent phone with UFC Matchmaker Hunter Campbell this appears to be a long shot.
Mike Perry Has Held Talks With Hunter Campbell About a UFC Return
During the latest episode of The MMA Hour, Perry has revealed he recently tried to return to the UFC. Despite his best efforts, Mike Perry revealed it was the UFC that shut this down.
“I called the UFC a couple of times, I don’t think Hunter Campbell will pick up my calls anymore because I blasted him,” Mike Perry revealed. “I told him a while back ‘Hey man, before I sign my contract, I can go from these two-minute rounds back to [MMA], but you guys have to make it worth my while’…I was on my way to the gym about to train and had my wife in the car, I asked for guarantees and more fights than what I had on my BKFC contract…”
“It was to make it worth their while…and he tried to call me out and said I can’t beat the Top five guys in our divisions right now. Well, sign me for one of the fights, and pay me like I’m fighting a Top five guy! Bring me in, and watch what happens. He didn’t want to deal with that, so they were just looking other places and they want these bodybuilders that come in for [$10k show, $10k win money].”
The UFC and Hunter Campbell have so far yet to confirm nor deny anything which Perry is suggesting. Mike Perry wants to make a return to MMA, however, he has changed his life since moving over to BKFC. He has played a massive role in the organisation which has included its expansion to California and Nevada. If Perry’s claims do come out to be true. It will give an interesting look at how the UFC deals with free agents. Most definitely with former fighters who could be looking for a return to the octagon.
Perry Has Become the Face of BKFC
Mike Perry has since become the face of Bare Knuckle FC since he departed from the UFC. Since leaving he has had some impressive performances which have included a decision victory over UFC Fighter Michael “Venom” Page. Perry has also been able to get stoppage victories over Luke Rockhold and Eddie Alvarez. This victory over Alvarez made him become the King of Violence champion. Perry will return to BKFC on April 27th when he takes on another former UFC Fighter Thiago Alves.
