Interview With Mikey Tranter
Mikey, Saturday night you dance under those lights once more, and in a new divison. Where’s the general mindset at after dropping your last two?
My mindset is a bit different for this fight. It’s stronger. I know what I have to do as always, but I have more confidence in my abilities and fitness than ever before.
Touching on them briefly, from a guy who was used to winning and finishing everybody in your path. Has that feeling of two-back-to-back losses been tough on you, or have you handled it in a positive manner?
Losing my past two fights has not slowed me down at all. It’s experience I have in the bag. I’ve been in some deep waters and dark places in my career already now, and I’m glad I have. These experiences have only hardened and matured me as a fighter.
After having attained BA welterweight gold in the past. Where does the decision to drop to lightweight come from, and what damage do you feel you can do at this new weight?
The decision was made because at the time welterweight was my natural body weight. I was fighting guys bigger than me, and by the time they’ve weighed in and refueled they’d be even bigger. Now I’m competing at lightweight, I see myself finishing more fights in more dominating fashion as i’ll be fighting people closer to my size.
Mikey Tranter Talks Opponent
Saturday night you’ll be faced with Yan Kirilishin. Break him down as an opponent, his skills, and any areas of his game you look at and know you’ve to be cautious off?
I have watched his fights, which is something I don’t usually do. He seems to be a composed, solid competitor. I’m excited to throw down with him on Saturday.
After two tough tests in your most recent outings. What would it mean to you to put on one of those signature Mikey Tranter mauling’s on Saturday?
It’s going to feel great. As always I’m looking forward to going in there and being me.
A win over Yan, what’s next? Are you going to remain at amateur and work towards more belt collecting, or could the professional ranks be on the horizon for you?
At the minute there is nothing after Yan. Nothing past the fight matters, just getting in there, raising some hell and having fun.
Final Thoughts
I believe you have the edge in experience over Yan. How much do you look into that and could that factor into the fight on Saturday night?
I’m not too bothered about records personally, but as stated before I’ve been through a lot in the cage in my short career, and I’m confident that all the experience and preparation done for this fight has molded me into a machine. I am the best version of myself.
