MMA legend Chael Sonnen has leapt to the defense of Paddy Pimblett after many have claimed the Scouser’s stock has dropped after his controversial win at UFC 282 over Jared Gordon.
Pimblett rapidly shot to stardom since joining the organization in 2021 with his unique personality and loyal fan base. Pimblett has won all four of his fights under the UFC thus far. However, his most recent outing against Jared Gordon wasn’t as plain sailing as he would have liked.
The decision being awarded to Pimblett caused some chaos within the community due to the majority believing Gordon had done enough to slam the door shut on the Liverpool native’s hype. Sonnen chimed in, delivering his thoughts.
Chael Sonnen Talks Paddy Pimblett Controversial UFC 282 Victory
“[The post-fight comments] Dropped his stock, it hurt him. It made him from beloved to hated overnight,” Sonnen said during a video on his YouTube channel when discussing Pimblett’s reaction to his win over Gordon. “That was a hard thing for me to see because it was so wildly obviously not true. Then let’s look at what the other option would’ve been.
“I guess you would have ‘Paddy The Baddy’ do what Jan Blachowicz did and say, ‘I lost the fight’. Do you believe that Blachowicz is in a better spot career wise and popularity wise than ‘Paddy the Baddy’ right now? They both had highly controversial decisions and one handled it like Paddy had and one like Blachowicz. Michael Bisping was bringing up that he could have done things differently.”

Pimblett has remained solid in his belief that he won the fight comfortably despite the critics. He admitted he had slowed down in the third round as he was under the impression he had done enough to cruise his way to a decision, but he understands that’s a fault on his side.
