“Meatball” Molly McCann took another quick loss via submission at UFC London. With her smooth winning streak being slashed by Erin Blanchfeild and now Julija Stoliarenko. The question being asked now by fans, where does she go from here?
What Went Down?
Molly McCann faced off against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist Julija Stoliarenko last night, hoping to get back into the win column. She last fought at Madison square Garden against now number one contender Erin Blanchfeild. It was here where she suffered a submission loss 3 minutes into the first round. McCann looked to return in style and replicate her previous UFC London performances and get a finish last night. However, Stoliarenko had other plans, and was not fazed by the pressure of being the away fighter last night.
The first round begins and Stoliarenko wasted no time in getting McCann to the floor. The jiu jitsu specialist then quickly took the back of McCann and transitioned to her signature arm bar submission. McCann taps, giving Stoliarenko her tenth finish via armbar in her 20- fight career.
McCann could be seen to tap early on to the armbar. The referee took some time to step in, leaving McCann grasping at her arm in quite some pain. It is unknown whether her arm has sustained an injury from this.
Where Does She Go From Here?
Losses are almost inevitable when fighting at the highest level of this sport. So Molly most definitely can bounce back to a place where she is winning again. However, it might take some time to reach her level of stardom of previous fights where she had back to back spinning elbow finishes. Much like her friend and teammate Paddy “the baddy” Pimblett, she has subsequently descended as a crowd favourite.
So where does Molly McCann go from here? The UFC would be reluctant to drop the Liverpudlian, as she still has star power, especially with a UK crowd. Another couple of losses could see a return to Cage Warriors or a debut in the likes of Bellator and PFL. Another couple of victories could see her ascend back to the talking point of the division.
